About Us

Overview: The ABC Health Connection Inc., has
implemented a multi-level intervention program for youth to
address HIV/STD infections, unintended pregnancy rates
and substance abuse in southwest Houston.

Need for Intervention Services: The City of Houston
STD/HIV division reports that 79% of all new HIV infections in
Houston occurs in the 13 to 25 year old age range. Two zip
codes out eleven zip codes reporting the highest Chlamydia
infection rates in Houston are located within our service
area. The rates of STD infections such as chlamydia,
unintended and/ or repeat pregnancy and late entry into
prenatal care by teens and young adults are indicative of
the risk behaviors that increase age groups exposure to HIV
and increase poor birth outcomes for their newborns. These
trends combined with the lack of access to health education
and services contribute to the health disparities experienced
by medically indigent and minority adolescents and young
adults.
